Majority of Game Developers View Generative AI as Harmful to the Industry

While generative AI is increasingly integrated into game development, a recent survey by the Game Developers Conference reveals a growing skepticism among developers. Over half of the respondents—52 percent—believe that generative AI negatively impacts the gaming industry, a sharp rise from previous years when only 18 percent held this view in 2024, increasing to 30 percent in 2025. In contrast, a mere 7 percent see the technology positively, indicating a significant shift in developer sentiment as the adoption of gen AI grows.
