Chinese manufacturer Biwin has developed a new ultra-compact SSD called the "Mini SSD," measuring just 15mm x 17mm x 1.4mm, similar in size to a SIM card but delivering impressive speeds up to 3,700MB/s over PCIe 4×2. These drives come in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities, offering a remarkable speed advantage over MicroSD cards and a smaller size compared to SD Express cards. With IP68 water and dust resistance and robust drop tolerance, these Mini SSDs are designed for use in laptops, tablets, phones, cameras, and more, fitting into dedicated trays similar to smartphone SIM slots. Two upcoming Chinese gaming portables, the GPD Win 5 and OneXPlayer Super X, have already announced support for these Mini SSDs. Pricing and wider availability remain unknown.
