Apple has implemented new changes to the App Store's fee structure in the European Union to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and avoid further penalties. The company introduced a tiered Store Services fee system: Tier 1 offers basic App Store features for a 5% commission on in-app purchases, excluding some benefits like automatic updates; Tier 2 provides full App Store features with a 13% commission and applies by default. Additionally, Apple launched a 5% Core Technology Commission applicable to purchases outside the apps. These changes follow a €500 million fine imposed by the EU for Apple's App Store practices violating DMA rules. Apple intends to appeal the decision while the European Commission evaluates the newly proposed adjustments.
