Microsoft is rolling out updates to the Xbox PC app and Xbox consoles to enable cloud games to follow you across multiple devices. A new play history feature will show cloud games in the recently played list and roam across Xbox consoles, PCs, and handhelds. Cloud-playable titles, including console exclusives from original Xbox through Series X|S, appear in your play history regardless of ownership or Game Pass access. This allows you to continue playing games across devices with cloud-powered game saves. Additionally, a new cloud games filter is added to the Xbox PC app library, and a play history section will appear on both PC and console home screens, displaying games played on any Xbox device. This move hints at further integration of PC games in Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft is also exploring streaming PC games via the cloud, aiming to improve game streaming quality and unify the Xbox and PC gaming experience for next-gen consoles.
Google Chrome for iOS now allows users to switch easily between personal and work profiles, keeping data such as browsing history, tabs, and passwords separate. This feature is available through Google’s enterprise software package, enabling employees of companies using Chrome Enterprise to sign in to managed work accounts and toggle between profiles within the browser. IT administrators can monitor security and restrict websites on the work profile. Unlike iOS, Android handles work profiles at the device level across all Google apps, not within the Chrome browser itself. Non-enterprise users cannot switch between multiple Google accounts on mobile browsers, a feature only available on desktop versions.
Fidji Simo, CEO of Instacart Inc., will assume a new executive role at OpenAI starting August 18th, where she will lead the applications division responsible for scaling and growing AI use cases. She joined OpenAI's board in March 2024 and will continue as Instacart's CEO until early August earnings are reported, after which she will transition fully to OpenAI.

Additionally, OpenAI is reportedly developing an AI-powered web browser to compete with Google Chrome and recently introduced ChatGPT Agent, a tool that automates tasks on users' computers.

Mayor Eric Adams has announced that New York City will collaborate with the crime-tracking app Citizen to provide users with location-based real-time public safety alerts. Public safety agencies, including the NYPD, Fire Department, and Emergency Management, will have access to a portal to watch footage shared by Citizen users. This initiative leverages Citizen's partnership with Axon's Fusus platform, enhancing law enforcement's ability to request video footage during incidents. Users can opt-out from sharing videos directly with police, but all posted videos remain publicly accessible. The NYC Public Safety account on Citizen will notify users about safety, weather emergencies, and major incidents based on their location. Citizen allows users to report incidents, share videos, and broadcast live, with alerts sent to nearby devices within seconds of a 911 call or report. While law enforcement can access data with a warrant, Citizen also provides expedited data access during emergencies. Originally launched as "Vigilante" in 2016, Citizen has faced criticism for potentially increasing community fear and controversial use cases but continues to evolve its safety-focused services.
