JPMorgan Chase has opened its new 60-story headquarters at 270 Park Avenue in New York City, a $3 billion project that replaces the former Union Carbide Building. The bronze and steel tower, standing at 1,388 feet, is taller than the Empire State Building’s roof and is now Manhattan’s fourth-largest building. It will accommodate approximately 10,000 of the bank’s 24,000 New York employees and houses trading operations across eight floors. Designed by architect Norman Foster and developed by Tishman Speyer, the building includes 2.5 million square feet, public spaces, and commissioned artworks. The site, above Metro North and Long Island Rail Road tracks, required complex demolition and construction efforts. JPMorgan plans to renovate its other NYC properties now that 270 Park is complete. CEO Jamie Dimon emphasized the building as a symbol of the bank’s deep New York roots and commitment to in-office work amid evolving post-pandemic workplace trends.
