D-Wave Partners with Swiss Quantum Technology to Deploy Advantage2 Quantum Computer in Italy

U.S.-based quantum computing company D-Wave Quantum has partnered with Swiss Quantum Technology (SQT) to bring its Advantage2 quantum computer to Italy, marking a €10 million ($11.63 million) deal. This initiative supports Italy’s large-scale digital transformation and forms part of the “Q-Alliance” collaboration between D-Wave and IonQ, another American quantum firm. Despite limited information on SQT, D-Wave described it as a Swiss company focused on quantum hybrid applications and research. Following the announcement, D-Wave’s stock rose by approximately 1.29%, continuing its impressive 4,235% growth over the past year fueled by excitement around quantum computing technology. CEO Alan Baratz highlighted the milestone as crucial for Italy, Q-Alliance, and D-Wave, emphasizing Advantage2’s unique ability to solve complex real-world problems unattainable by classical computers. The technology is already applied globally, including in Wales for police deployment prediction, in Turkey for automotive manufacturing, and in Japan for network performance optimization. The deployment in Italy underscores the quantum computing industry’s emerging breakout despite some skepticism about practical use cases’ immediacy.
