Despite the TikTok divest-or-ban law in effect since January, the app has only paused US service for one day. Reports indicate a sale deal that meets legal requirements is near, involving non-Chinese investors like Oracle, with ByteDance retaining a minority stake. This deal requires approval from the Chinese government amid ongoing tariff disputes. Oracle also secured a government-wide cloud infrastructure discount agreement. TikTok is developing a new app version, M2, planned for a September 5th release. The original app would exit US stores by then, ceasing operation by March 2026, following the latest deadline extension for the ban.
