Pinterest CEO Acknowledges Limitations in Fully Filtering AI-Generated Content

Pinterest recently reported a 17% revenue increase year-over-year, but its stock plummeted nearly 20% following the earnings release. Despite meeting revenue expectations, the company missed earnings per share and sales estimates. Pinterest has introduced AI controls allowing users to adjust the amount of AI-generated content on their feeds, responding to user criticism of excessive AI content or “AI slop.” CEO Bill Ready emphasized AI as central to the Pinterest experience, dubbing the company an “AI-powered shopping assistant.” He acknowledged the difficulty in fully filtering AI-generated content, stating no platform can achieve 100% accuracy, and compared AI’s role in media to that of Photoshop in editing. Pinterest also highlighted a 12% increase in global monthly active users, with significant growth in male users. Advertiser performance has improved with AI-driven automation, boosting outbound clicks by 40% year-over-year.
