OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a new feature that connects users’ medical records and wellness apps with its AI chatbot to offer personalized health advice. This dedicated health section within ChatGPT allows users to gather data from fitness and wellness apps such as Apple Health, Peloton, MyFitnessPal, and Function Health. Through a partnership with b.well, users can also access their electronic medical records securely, with authentication often facilitated via their provider’s portal, including systems like MyChart. The product has been developed over two years with input from more than 260 physicians worldwide and incorporates a specialized health AI model evaluated using a tool called HealthBench. Privacy and data encryption are central, with health data excluded from OpenAI’s other model training. While not FDA-approved and not a substitute for professional medical diagnosis, ChatGPT Health aims to help users prepare for medical appointments, understand tests, get exercise and diet tips, and navigate insurance. Currently in limited release, OpenAI plans to broaden access soon.
