Formerly head of Tesla’s AI division and an influential figure in AI education, Karpathy will lead a new team at Anthropic focused on accelerating pretraining research using their AI model Claude. Nicholas Joseph, Anthropic’s Head of Pretraining, expressed excitement about Karpathy’s addition to the team, highlighting his expertise and potential for impactful work. Karpathy’s diverse experience spans academic research at Stanford, big tech deployments at Tesla and OpenAI, and contributions to AI education through his open-source projects and AI-native school, Eureka Labs. While joining Anthropic may pause some of his educational initiatives, Karpathy remains passionate about continuing these efforts in the future.
