Currently, many high-end webcams do not work with the Nintendo Switch 2, while some older models do. This compatibility mystery, lingering since the device’s launch nearly three weeks ago, has now been addressed by two companies. They discovered that the Switch 2 selects unsupported modes from webcams, which advertise multiple operating modes via USB. Elgato, one of the affected brands, plans to release firmware updates for its Facecam MK.2 and Facecam Neo by introducing a low-resolution 480p mode. This change is based on the hypothesis that the Switch 2 supports only very low-resolution cameras to enable the display of multiple facecams. However, resolution alone does not explain the issue entirely, since Nintendo’s official Switch 2 camera streams in 1080p and other high-resolution cameras are compatible as well.
