In December last year, Microsoft allowed thousands of its staff, including engineers and designers, to use Claude Code—a command-line coding assistant developed by Anthropic—at the company’s expense. By spring, the tool’s usage expanded beyond technical teams into non-technical roles, a shift that traditionally would have taken much longer during previous software adoption cycles in enterprise settings.
