Microsoft and Asus have introduced the ROG Xbox Ally devices featuring a full-screen Xbox interface tailored for handheld gaming PCs. This new Xbox experience boots directly into a compact Xbox app that replaces the traditional Windows desktop, optimizing performance and battery life for gaming. The integration combines Xbox’s Game Bar and Windows enhancements to offer a seamless launcher for PC games from various stores including Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox Game Pass. Improvements include reduced background processes, better memory allocation, and a redesigned Game Bar accessible via the Xbox button for quick settings and multitasking. Microsoft aims to compete with SteamOS and expand this experience to other Windows handhelds from next year, improving handheld gaming with native Xbox and PC game support.
