Meta has announced it will retire Horizon Worlds VR on the Quest platform, marking the end of its metaverse strategy centered on virtual reality. The app will be removed from the Quest store by March 31, 2026, with VR access ending on June 15, 2026. After reporting Reality Labs losses of $19.19 billion in 2025 and a total of $83.55 billion over six years, Meta is scaling back VR efforts, closing studios, and reducing staff. The company is now shifting focus towards AI and wearable devices. Along with the shutdown, popular VR social spaces and Horizon Plus benefits will be discontinued, signaling a significant decline in metaverse enthusiasm.
