Meta has announced layoffs of approximately 600 employees from its newly established AI “superintelligence” research lab, led by Alexandr Wang. This initiative was launched in June following Meta’s $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI and the hiring of Wang to spearhead the project. Despite these cuts, Meta is ramping up its AI investments, with plans to spend $60 to $65 billion on capital expenditures in 2025. Alongside the layoffs, Meta is expanding AI-powered advertising features and building a large data center in Manhattan to support its AI technology. CEO Mark Zuckerberg remains optimistic about the company’s AI-driven future, highlighting recent strong financial results and a commitment to developing personal superintelligence for global users.
