Kindle’s New Update Allows Filtering of Inappropriate Ads on Lock Screen

The latest Kindle software update (version 5.18.3) introduces a new feature for users of ad-supported Kindle devices, including Kindle Scribes, Kindle Colorsoft, and the 11th and 12th generation basic Kindle and Paperwhite. This update enables users to filter out ads deemed inappropriate for all audiences from their lockscreen and homescreen. Users can now disable “Personalized Ads” to stop ads based on their browsing or purchase history and enable “Filter ads” to hide NSFW or unsuitable promotions. However, Amazon controls what is classified as inappropriate. For those who prefer an ad-free experience, a $20 fee must be paid via Amazon’s website to remove ads completely.
