Google has announced a significant reversal on its previous plan to deactivate all shortened goo.gl URLs by August 25th. While URLs showing a deactivation warning due to inactivity since late 2024 will cease to function, all other goo.gl links will remain active and functional. This change comes after Google’s initial plan, announced in July 2024, to discontinue support citing a sharp decline in traffic with over 99% of URLs inactive in the past month. Google acknowledged the widespread use of these links across various media and responded to user feedback by preserving active links.
