DeepSeek, a Chinese AI lab, has expanded its offerings beyond just AI models with the launch of DeepSeek Harness v0.1, an open-source agent harness designed to support AI agents in software development. This modular harness allows developers to swap out components such as models, tools, sessions, and more, offering an alternative to existing environments like Anthropic’s Claude Code. Alongside this, DeepSeek released DeepSeek-V4-Pro-0813, an updated flagship model optimized for agent workloads, now available across their web, mobile, and API platforms with enhanced capabilities and support for multiple APIs including OpenAI’s Responses API and Codex integration. However, the company has also announced a significant increase in API pricing starting August 16, introducing peak and off-peak rates that make using their V4 models considerably more expensive than before. The open-source nature of DeepSeek Harness and the advanced features of V4-Pro underscore DeepSeek’s strategy to offer a competitive and flexible agent ecosystem while adjusting their pricing structure to balance accessibility with business sustainability.
