Alongside legislative efforts, the Trump administration is also restricting public access to cutting-edge AI models, including deals with OpenAI and regulatory pressure on Anthropic to halt releases of their most advanced AI products. While these measures aim to mitigate risks from malicious use of AI, critics caution they could limit beneficial access to powerful tools for U.S. government agencies, industries, and other institutions that rely on such technologies for defense and innovation. California Representative Sam Liccardo expresses concern over the potential downsides of these restrictions, warning that limiting access without clear oversight could hinder U.S. competitiveness and national security in the long run.
