Amazon has announced plans to acquire Globalstar in an $11.6 billion deal, securing the satellite spectrum, infrastructure, and operational expertise needed to launch direct-to-device satellite services as early as 2028. In addition, Amazon and Apple have inked a separate agreement allowing Amazon Leo to power satellite features on iPhones and the Apple Watch, enabling a faster rollout of satellite connectivity by combining their development efforts into a single transaction.
