Almagul Menlibayeva’s latest installation, Posthuman Matter: The Map of Nomadizing Reimaginings #3, displayed at the VRHAM! Digital & Immersive Art Biennale in Hamburg, Germany, combines handwoven textile maps and AI-augmented video to reconstruct censored stories of Central Asia. The installation features a large textile map of Kazakhstan and surrounding regions, paired with looping video screens showing salt lakes, villages, and nuclear test sites. These videos blend real documentary footage with AI enhancements to revive erased histories, feminist rituals, nomadic storytelling, and endangered languages, creating an alternative vision for the region’s future through a unique mix of craft and digital media.
